St Mary’s Church’s work in the community depends on giving from the community and we are very grateful to all those who give to the Church, whether that gift large or small.

We would encourage you to think ahead and plan your giving – where possible planning to give on a regular basis so that we as a Church can plan for the future so that we have the necessary resources to complete our work and mission of the Church.

If you would like to make a donation to the church, this can be done in a number of ways:

By Regular Standing Orders:

The Church bank account accepts Standing Orders. If you would like to start giving by this method, please contact us. This could be make on a monthly, Quarterly or annual basis.

By Parish Giving Scheme (PGS):

The PGS is a charitable company owned by participating Dioceses and Parishes.  Its purpose is to manage regular giving for participating churches. The PGS Scheme reduces some of the administration out of being a church treasurer and results in Gift Aid payments being received into the church accounts directly.

Donations made through this scheme use a Direct Debit. This can be made on a monthly, quarterly or annual basis.  Each donation is restricted to the nominated parish church.  The church receives exactly what is donated with the small commission charge made by the charity being paid by the Diocese.

By One off Donation In Church by cash or cheque

An offertory is taken at most of our services for cash and cheque donations.  Gift Aid envelopes are available in church for such one-off donations.

By Gift Aid:

As a charity, the parish is part of the Gift Aid Scheme, which means we can recover the income tax paid by parishioners who elect to be part of this scheme on donations they make. This enables the parish to recover several thousand pounds – at no extra cost to you.

If you are a UK tax payer and currently do not Gift Aid your donations to the Parish, we would like to ask you to seriously consider taking part in the scheme. It will have no cost to you nothing but would benefit the parish. All we will ask you to do is complete a Gift Aid declaration.

From 06 April 2011 25% of the amount donated can be claimed as Gift Aid from HMRC, so this means if you give £10 using Gift Aid, it is worth £12.50 to our Church charity.  As you can appreciate this is potentially a significant amount.

(Link to Gift Aid Declaration Form) – please return this to us once completed.

Legacy Giving:

Please consider leaving St. Mary’s a gift in your will.  Monetary gifts do not count as part of the residual estate and therefore are free of inheritance tax.  Bequests allow us to purchase items or put funds towards specific items or building works at your request.  A simple conversation with your solicitor will allow you to put this in your will.

We are delighted that you would like to fundraise for the church.

If you are looking for fundraising ideas or sponsorship forms for your event, we’ll be able to help you with fundraising ideas and sponsorship forms.  You can also fundraise for use directly and we have an online giving page to point your sponsors towards.

All gifts given to St. Marys are treated in confidence and will be seen only be the treasurer.

Thank You:

As a parish, we would like to Thank You for your generous gift to St. Mary’s Gainford.  We are thrilled to have your support and you make the difference for us when it comes to being able to expand our mission and do good work.

And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou has sent me, and hast loved them, as thou has loved me. – John 17:21-23 (KJV)
