The church has a small number of parking spaces outside the church including spaces reserved for disabled visitors, however, there is plentiful free parking in the village just a short walk from the church.

Disabled Access

Disabled access for wheelchair users is overcome by the use of a moveable ramp. If you need wheelchair access for a church service, please let the Welcome Team know and they will ensure that the ramp is put in place.  If you are visiting when our Team are not around, please contact us (here) to ensure that accesses is made available for you.  St. Mary’s does have an induction loop facility which is linked into both static and radio microphone and loudspeakers enabling the service to be heard by all.  Guide dogs are allowed within the church and large print service books are available.

We do have ‘Accessible’ toilet facilities in the church which also have baby changing facilities within.  The church also has some limited kitchen facilities which are used after services and for other groups using the church.

Opening Times

Following the easing of lockdown measures our Church is now open daily from 10am until 4pm for private worship/prayer.  We ask that you observe social distancing measures accordingly, or as per any markings or directions on display within the Church or that may be given by a member of Church staff on site.  Should the Church be locked we apologise, we have tried to make every effort to keep the Church building open for Private Prayer.

Whilst you visit

At the rear of the church there are a number of large information boards setting out how the church and its position fits in a timeline dating back to the 8th century; and how the church sits in its landscape along with the church and social history of the parish.  These provide a comprehensive summary of the parish as a whole.

Arriving at Our Church

Whether you have been invited by a friend, are looking to use our church facilities, or are joining us to worship, we are very happy to have you in our midst; we love visitors and you are always welcome to St. Mary’s.

St Mary’s Church is a Grade 1 listed building, founded on a monastery and dates from the 8th century. It was re-modelled and extended in 13th century and still retains many
features from that period. The church is set in a beautiful location by the village green and right next to the River Tees.  It is the home of a vibrant Church community who seek to make the Church a place of welcoming, support and spiritual growth for all who visit.

 Who can attend

People of all ages and stages are most welcome to our church services. Our worship style blends the traditional whilst also being celebratory; relaxing in each others’ and God’s company with a simple style involving music and worship.  Communion, Common Worship and occasional morning prayer services all combine together.

We are currently holding Holy Communion every Sunday at 10.45am at the church
lasting about 45 minutes.

We have an archive of past Sermons on our ‘Live’ page (found here) if you wish to experience and explore some of our past services before attending.

The Welcome Team will greet you at the door and guide you through the procedures required to keep everyone safe during these difficult times.
