St Andrew's Church, Winston
Revd Canon Eileen Harrop
A Message from The Vicar
A warm welcome is extended in Jesus’ name to all who come to our blessed ancient parish churches of St Mary’s, Gainford and St Andrew’s, Winston – both sacred pilgrim places of continuous worship since Saxon times in rural Teesdale on the River Tees.
Treasured and well cared for by their members and communities, we testify to God’s love and the inspiration of the Holy Spirit both inside and out with active ministry in homes, with schools, social groups, in making music, by celebrating together, and being present at poignant moments in the lives of parishioners. Our mission is enduring: deep and wide

St Mary’s
Situated upon the banks of the River Tees, St Mary’s has a large village green in front of it which hosts many village events. Gainford village also hosts a spa (an ancient well) to which Pilgrims used to journey before then visiting the church itself.
St Mary’s is quite a large church for a village of Gainford’s size and has a square clock tower from which bells can be heard for special events and for call to prayer.
St Andrew’s
St Andrew’s occupies a distinct, prominent position on the top of a hill overlooking the beautiful Teesdale Valley, giving any visitor spectacular views.
There is a path leading from the church to the riverbank, passing through our community garden, and you may wish enjoy our beautiful river side walk before or after a service.
