St Cuthbert’s Day Pilgrimage: 19th March

Celebrating St Cuthbert

Pilgrimage is a long standing tradition at St Mary’s and St Andrew’s – and Durham Cathedral are running a series of events to celebrate St Cuthbert’s Festival.

We’re proud of our heritage with St Mary’s Church originally in fact being St Cuthbert’s (before being dedicated to St Mary’s in the 13th century) after providing a place of rest for the Saint.  As we now reside on the newly opened Way of Life Pilgrim Way  this connection persists with a modern twist to it.  If you would like to join those members who walk the Camino de Santiago and Camino Ingles by walking the section to Durham Cathedral by joining these events please read on.

St Cuthbert’s Day – Friday 18th March 2022

Join Durham Cathedral members at 6pm for a special Evensong service, including a procession to St Cuthbert’s Shrine, which will last about one hour. The service is sung by Durham Cathedral Choir and the Preacher is the Reverend Canon Angela Tilby, Writer and Broadcaster and Canon Emerita of Christchurch Cathedral, Oxford.  If you wish to attend this service, please let us Durham Cathedral know you’re coming by booking a free ticket in advance.
